Beyond Skin, in the spotlight

The multi-award winning Beyond Skin Clinic based in Belfast City Centre celebrate three years in business this summer. With demand for aesthetics treatments & non-surgical solutions at an all-time high the clinic team work hard to make sure they offer the most innovative & effective treatments to a demanding clientele.

We spoke to co-founder Jennie Wallace to find out what makes a successful clinic and get the insider guide on the must-try treatment for 2019.

Tell us a bit about how Beyond Skin started:

Myself and Gillian were working for a national clinic chain running their Belfast location which closed rather suddenly in 2016. After we got over the initial shock of redundancy we recognized an amazing opportunity to open our own clinic, continuing to look after the clients we had relationships with and build a business on our own terms.

We had just 6 weeks to find a location and have it refurbished to the required standard, file for the necessary permits and source equipment.

It was important to us that we maintain a very high standard of service & care so we invested heavily in the best aesthetic equipment working with industry-leading brands Cynosure, Allergan, Obagi Medical, Dermaquest and Epionce.

We accept nothing less than excellence in all areas of our business. Both staff and suppliers have been scrutinized to ensure they constantly uphold the values of Beyond Skin – integrity, inclusivity, efficiency and quality.

Since opening the doors on 2nd July 2016 we’ve never looked back, establishing ourselves as a local market leader and picking up numerous awards along the way.

Tell us about the awards you’ve won, which one are you most proud of?

We’ve been overwhelmed with support from both the aesthetics and wider business communities, and we were thrilled to be named ‘Cosmetic Clinic of the Year’ at the NI Hair & Beauty Awards in 2018. There’s two nominations that really stand out for me though:

We were named as finalists for ‘LGBT-Friendly Health Practitioner of the Year’ at the GNI Awards in 2018, specifically for the work we’ve done to support the trans community. It means a lot to know that we are able to provide real life changing results for people and I was very proud of the nomination, even though we didn’t win.

The inaugural Beauty Excellence Award Nominees were announced last month and we have been lucky enough to be named in 4 categories – Aesthetics Clinic Of The Year, Skin Clinic Of The Year, Excellence in Digital/Social Media & Excellence in Marketing. It’s a real true honour to be recognised and nominated by a panel of esteemed judges including Woodford Medical’s Dr Mervyn Patterson, Bellamianta Tan Founder Linda Stinson and Emmy Award-Winning Pamela Smyth. The awards ceremony take place later this month and we’ll have our whole team there to celebrate. Whether we actually win or not on the night, we already feel like winners.

What’s the secret to your success?

Our business is all about people, and we wouldn’t be where we are without our amazing team. All our staff really care about what they do and are committed to our common goal of excellence in everything. A happy team is a successful team and we’ve cultivated a fun working environment where our staff are challenged, inspired and rewarded. I think that culture feeds into the client experience too.

As well as employing the very best people, we watch industry trends closely to make sure we’re providing the best and most effective treatments. Increasingly clients have less tolerance for aggressive, invasive treatments and so we’ve spent time researching how to achieve maximum results with minimal downtime.

Thanks to bloggers, video tutorials and the vast amount of information available online clients are becoming better educated about skincare, and are demanding more from skincare professionals. We’re always learning ourselves and we try to pass on knowledge when we can. The latest innovations are in micro-encapsulating ingredients for deeper penetration through the layers of the skin. Ingredients like Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid have been used for along time, but it’s the new formulations of these ingredients that makes them more effective.

What’s the best new treatment on the market?

We’re seeing great results from ‘skin booster’ treatment Profhilo. It’s an injectable treatment but very different to traditional fillers. Profhilo treatment uses microdroplets of specially formulated Hyaluronic Acid to restore laxity and structure to skin without adding volume. Some people describe it as ‘injectable moisturiser’ because it provides a smoothing effect reducing fine lines & wrinkles but with a longer lasting result. We’re one of the first clinics in Northern Ireland to offer this treatment which has already been revolutionizing the aesthetics industry across the UK & Europe.
